CCR Question 2- Planning

Creative Critical Reflection 2

How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text?

After picking what type of trailer I want to do and how to make it seem like a trailer and not an opener, I am ready to now plan out how I am going to achieve this trailer look.

‘Cinematic Trailer Tutorial ’|| Capcut 🔥

For editing the trailer, I wanted to use Capcut. In this video I get to see a visual of how to make a trailer using Capcut. From this I can see the different elements needed for the trailer such as:
  • Fading to black in between the clips
  • Text to enhance the excitement for the audience
For the fading to black I do feel this will help with the tension (as described in my last post). By fading to black after each clip, it can tease the story without revealing too much information (e.g. who killed the victim), the pause helps make the viewers wait for the next sliver of information given by the trailer. When ending each of the clips with a black screen, the trailer will force a pause in-between the informational visuals. This allows for the viewers brains to have time to process everything they have seen, causing the next visual that they see to have a more impactful feeling. Also, this pause (the fading to black) will help create a dramatic pause or emphasis on some important clues for our film.

What Clips Should be in the Trailer?

The Girl on the Train - Official Trailer - In Theaters October 7 (HD)
This is what I wanted to base my trailer on. First, we can see the main character of this film then followed by an establishing shot. The cut to black is shown in this example of a trailer, as well as the cut to text (which aids in contextualizing what is going on).
A car driving past a house

I wanted to use this clip as the establishing shot. Also, I can add a "vroom" aspect of the car driving past to divert the audience's attention to the car. The use of that aspect can also aid in making the trailer less boring making people more likely to want to watch the film. Then, I can use other elements that are shown in some openings. Like showing the main character and also showing the main issue the film is about for the dramatic and tension filled aspect of trailers.
